Individual, Couples and Group Psychotherapy

I work together with my clients to determine the most effective mode of psychotherapy.  Some people benefit most from individual work while others incorporate various types of treatment. You may benefit from therapy with a significant other, family member or friend in couples therapy or from being part of a larger group.

Group psychotherapy is suitable for a large variety of problems and difficulties, including people who would like to develop their interpersonal skills as well as those with emotional concerns such as anxiety and depression. Working in groups differs from other forms of therapy in that it provides a unique opportunity to learn about yourself in relation to others and understand how relationships affect your experiences. It provides even more information to changes one’s own pattern of thought and behavior and to respond more effectively to those of others. Often clients benefit from pursuing individual treatment at the same time as group treatment. I am familiar with and support recovery and 12-step groups when my clients find them beneficial.

I am currently offer the following psychotherapy groups:

Parenting After Divorce or Separation

A group for men and women parenting after a divorce or separation. Appropriate if you're single parenting, co-parenting, step-parenting, parenting in a blended family, recently divorced or divorced some time ago.

Therapy Group for Single Mothers

This group utilizes therapy to provide support and growth as you navigate the complex and demanding world of single motherhood while continuing to develop your own life.

Therapy Group for Single Fathers

This group provides a therapeutic space for fathers to share the challenges and achievements of single parenting while pursuing personal growth.

Mixed Gender Therapy Group

This group is for men and women wanting to pursue the benefits of ongoing interpersonal group psychotherapy. 

My Background

I have practiced psychotherapy for over a decade in both private practice and community settings, including the University of Texas Counseling and Mental Health Center, Hospice Austin, Capital Area Mental Health Center and Texas State University.   My affiliations include the American Group Psychotherapy Association, Austin Group Psychotherapy Society, and the Austin Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology. In addition to my graduate studies, I have trained at the Center for Group Studies in New York.  I am devoted to staying professionally active to incorporate new research and provide the most effective treatment. 

Prior to practicing psychotherapy, I worked in international human services in Taiwan, India and the International Office at the University of Texas. I am a certified mediator and my experience in public policy includes working in the US Congress and the Texas House of Representatives as well as conducting multiple facilitations, mediations and public policy negotiations.

While I do not file insurance in my office, most plans will reimburse for my services as an out-of-network provider.
